I like to think I'm STARTING to improve...at least a little bit! :)

Random Favourites

You know, looking at my old favourites is weird. I think it says nearly as much about me as my old writing does. Every piece in here is still beautiful (and/or amusing) in its own way, though...unfortunately, I can't say the same for my old writing, too... :XD:

random acts of kindness

Mon Jun 15, 2009, 12:00 AM
Another barbecue! A mini one this time. Just with some family friends. It was really nice out, so we were outside all day. woo. It seems kinda lame (my dad's favourite word...shh), but after we ate my mom's friend told us to go around the table, and each say one nice things about Tommy. Then, we moved on to my dad, then Nick, then me, Chris, Helena, Nena, and my mom, until everyone had said one nice thing about each person at the table, including themself. It was actually really interesting (and made me feel like I was at school a little bit...meh). Apparently I have a great personality, I love animals, I'm very...environmentally friendly, I'm a great friend, I'm a good conversationalist, I'm really fun, I have gorgeous hair...(to which I protested that it's not my fault, which was probably not the best choice of words...whatever. I got the genes from somewhere.) My mom said I bring out her girly side, which was nice. (My mom doesn't care about those things, and much as I don't think they're important, really, I just can't help it...I love the pretty. I have an addiction to glass jewellery. Among other things.) It was really sweet, actually. Though Niko actually could not think of a single nice thing to say about me. After I listed, like, 5 things for him. Thanks a lot, brother dearest. I even gave him "good brother". He could have at least given me "favourite sister"...yes, I'm his only sister. But still.

I really don't know what prompted this whole thing. Maybe someone was teasing someone else, I dunno. But...much as it felt like kindergarten, or something, it's just...a nice feeling, to say nice things about people. I love making people's days brighter. I just...do. It's why I review stories that need love, it's why I joined yahoo! answers (though that does have the added bonus of giving Mikaela and I something to mock at 3AM, sometimes...shh.), it's why I always listen when people talk to me (though I am a bit of an interrupter, unfortunately. ugh. It's an awful habit, one that I don't even notice until other people point it out to me.), hell, it's why I giving people gifts, thoughtful or spontaneous.

Now, this isn't supposed to be about me singing my own praises for being oh-so-wonderfully generous and compassionate. Uh-uh. I'm encouraging random acts of kindness! It just seems like so few people are kind for the sake of being kind, making people smile, making someone else's life just that much easier, that much brighter. Random acts of kindness! Do it!

On Friday, Allie and I went to see The Hangover (which was amazing, by the way. :XD: ) downtown with our moms (we are so the coolest), and Nena had a couple of extra tickets, so she gave them to these random girls...so they asked her if they were Black Market, or something. Which was...weird, yes. And slightly amusing. But...they hardly seemed to believe that it was just a random act of kindness. And they probably looked at her like she was crazy. (I was in the bathroom at the time, I think.) But...no one expects it. It's just weird. I dunno. Why should it be so weird?

Anyway, I know most people think it's crazy, but I'm going to be randomly kind anyway, thank you very much! :D

...Now, I stated writing this journal to say that I think I officially have the blockage. I'm trying to write, I really am...I might just take a break from trying, though, and relax in the sun for a while. (um. Not right now, obviously, as it's currently 2:50 AM. But...you know what I mean.) The pool is finally actually clean (apparently I was using the wrong vacuum hose. Niko and Tommy set it up, though, not me! And I did manage to get some of the leaves!) I think my dad must have appreciated my effort (for once :XD: ), because he finally cleaned it this morning. And it's blessedly leaf-bug-and-rock-free. (Those dandelion fluff-things, on the other hand...grr...)

Man, see, I'm even interrupting myself today. Constantly.

I think I'm finally done talking about nothing again.

Oh, yes...ze final note for mensa...
...I read Keeping the Moon, finally! I went to my mom's piano lesson on Friday, yes...then I read Friday night, after the movie, and finished Saturday morning. You were right, it was awesome! ...well, I wasn't a big fan of her nickname. um. I thought it was a bit too cutesy for her, I dunno. But she reminded me of me, in many ways...though I think it's pretty safe to say that no one has ever called me a slut. (oh, and 45 extra pounds would totally NOT give her a double chin...at least, I definitely don't have one! :XD: )
I still preferred The Truth About Forever, though.
(Did you notice the the only good guys I've read, so far, are both artists? I think she might like the artist type...:P woo. Not that I mind. I would totally keep Wes locked up in my basement. ...er...what?)
:D
